  • Catalina Cherry

Catalina cherry (Prunus lyonii) is a native to chaparral areas in Southern Calilfornia and the Channel Islands.  It is an evergreen, growing from 15 up to 40 ft., with shiny mediun green leaves, showing mostly smooth edges.  The flowers are showy in spring and the fruits are cherry red.  The berries are edible and vaguely smelling of cherries, although not sweet.  Beloved of birds.
