  • California wild grape

The California wild grape (Vitis californica) is a native climbing vine, producing edible fruit.  It is very adaptable, can grow in damp areas, but it tolerates drought conditions.  It provides refuge for many animals and food for a variety of birds.  The grapes are edible and can be used for juices, jams, and jellies.   However, trees such as oaks or cottonwoods may succumb if the vines climb on the upper canopy.
