    Coffeeberry (Rhamnus californica) is and evergreen shrub reaching up to six feet high.  The leaves are  dark green and glossy, the branches can be reddish.  Greenish flowers and berry-like fruits.  The berries are first green, progressing to read and finally black,   present in summer and fall.  The berries have been used as laxative or tonic, as well as the dried bark, but some poisonings have been reported.
